I'm Ann Steward and I work with brides, seniors, and families to create comfortable, natural photo sessions for people who crave images filled with joy, love, and authenticity. I show them how to have more confidence by posing them naturally in front of the camera and sprinkling giggles, kisses, and real moments into their sessions and wedding day. I capture more candid, real moments, without all the stiff and awkward posing.
I’m beyond grateful I get to bless so many couples, seniors and families every year by providing them with photography heirlooms and making sure they feel cherished and at ease through the entire experience! And if my job wasn’t awesome enough, I get to work with with my husband too!!! And since he's my best friend, it's super-de-dooper awesome. My husband, Trent, works with me second shooting our weddings and works as lighting assistant and second shoots at many of our portrait sessions.
Most days you’ll find me editing photos with a dog at my feet, a cat in my lap, and our little girl and boy playing next to me while I work. I found out early on in our business that answering email promptly and taking pretty pictures wasn’t all that this job as a photographer could be.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
We want to glorify God with how we serve and love our clients. As our neighbor, we want to uplift you and encourage you. We desire to bring your family closer through family photography, to remind you with your wedding photography of how deep your love is and make your marriage stronger and more resilient (especially during life’s hard seasons), and to declare over our seniors that they are truly “clothed with strength and dignity, and [can] laugh without fear of the future.”
Psalm 31:25
The interactions and experiences we have with our clients and their families provide us with a unique opportunity to bring them joy.
Most great teams have one thing in common: balance. And, boy oh boy do we have that one going for us.
I’ve been told a time or two that my personality is on the cheerful and bubbly side. I also really love a bunch of bubbly things like La Croix, Prosecco, Bubble Baths, boiling water perfect for cooking some delicious pasta. Mmmm, pasta.
My husband, Trent, works with me second shooting our weddings and works as lighting assistant and second shoots at many of our portrait sessions. He’s the logic to my emotion, the chill to my pep, the handshake to my hug, and the earl gray to my pink lemonade personality.
While I love to be up close and right in the middle of the fun and laughter while photographing our clients, Trent hangs back with his super zoom paparazzi-style lense and catches all the treasured candid moments. Together we’ve got you covered.
I'm always busy making everyone feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera, and Trent quietly busy snapping canid moments and also defuses any bombs that inevitably pop up on wedding days. And after 16 years together we can almost read each other’s minds (oh man, telepathy would be so handy on wedding days).
Sometimes in life, something extraordinary happens and we are blessed with something so amazing it’s far beyond what we dreamed was possible. Something bigger than luck. Someone might win the lottery, make the tie-breaking goal in the championship game, or getting the key to stay in Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World...For me, meeting Trent was a lot like that.
I woke up thinking it would be a pretty normal day. It was near the end of my sophomore year and I didn’t expect anything extra special to happen. Off I went to my gigantic high school, excited to get out of classes for the day. You see, I had just been elected as a National Honor Society officer! Eek! #nerdgoals! I was SO excited to attend the conference with all the officers in our district. Meeting new people is THE BEST and I couldn’t wait to meet EVERYONE! I didn’t realize I was about to meet THE ONE!
We went to the same high school, but because there were so many students, I had never met this handsome upperclassman who was now serving as an officer with me. We met officially at lunch during the conference that day and went out on our first date that afternoon. I initially agreed to go out because he was so cute (highschool me is still swooning a bit), but after talking with him for two hours he could have had 3 eyes and 2 teeth and I would have still been head over heels for him.
Trent was everything I wanted in a boyfriend and everything I needed in a best friend. He was kind, smart, generous, witty, and loved to make me laugh. We just fit, right from the start. It was like my heart was full of puzzle pieces and they all just clicked into place. We went to college together and every day together was better than the day before. Of course, just like everyone we had struggles and trials in our lives, but we were blessed that these hard seasons brought us closer together instead of apart. We knew for a long time that we were going to get married, and at the end of my junior year of college, he proposed. It was magical (you should definitely ask me about it sometime)!
We got married a week after my college graduation. The day was as close to perfect as I could imagine, and it feels like it happened yesterday, not almost 10 years ago! Part of what makes it feel so fresh is our beautiful pictures. They constantly remind me of how I felt at every moment of our wedding day. How my tummy was full of butterflies before our first look, and how special it was to look out at all our friends and family as we said “I Do.”
I always loved photography, but I never loved wedding photography until I saw how important our wedding pictures were for us during the joyful and challenging seasons of life. Our marriage has faced life’s regular stresses and strains, but we also had to face the challenge of coping with a full-on natural disaster. And that's when I started to realize how precious those wedding photos were and how they let us treasure those memories in our darkest time.
Right before our 3rd anniversary, our house blew away in a tornado, Wizard of Oz style (but instead of munchkins and witches we had The Red Cross and The National Guard). Losing your home and most of what you own is a pretty big hit friend, but it solidified some important truths for us. We needed to enjoy every single day and treasure our moments with loved ones. Our stuff didn’t matter as much as we thought it did. But our photos matter a lot. All our photos managed to freeze the fleeting joyful moments so they could be cherished and reminisced over during that testing time.
That's what I wanted to provide for others. Life's not perfect, but it can have perfect moments. Those moments are what I wanted to photograph and capture for brides, families, and seniors. That was when it all started, and Ann Steward Photography began.
Whatever our life brings, we have Jesus, we have each other, we have our family, we have a job we love and we have A LOT of photos. I couldn’t imagine a better happily ever after.
A lot happened after I married my high school sweetheart. We got our loyal golden retriever, Bridget, who makes sure I always have a golden shadow next to me wherever I go. And then we expanded our family further by adding some sweet kitty cats to the mix. There was and is a lot of vacuuming (so much shedding), but also a lot of love.
We started Ann Steward Photography, and I finally got to spend every day doing my dream job.
Then a few years later we had our daughter, Claire. Her laughter is the sweetest sound in the world and her smile the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen. To say we are smitten is an understatement. She loves everything glitter, pink, kittens, and mermaids. She’s 6 now, and seeing her delight in every aspect of life is the highlight of my own.
Three years after that, Claire also earned the title of big sister, when we had our baby boy, Cooper. He is all giggles all the time and has yet to go through a day without smiling. Playing with Claire, musical instruments, singing songs, and rolling his cars and firetrucks around are the highlights of his days. He is the happiest toddler I’ve ever met and is probably the reason they invented the word jolly.
We love to go on trips together. Traveling to the beach to build sandcastles and splash in the waves is a highlight of every summer. But, if you made it this far down on the page, then you have also realized that magical moments are a very real thing for us. It only makes sense that our favorite place to visit and vacation is always Walt Disney World. It’s a place overflowing with pixie dust and wonder. For us, it’s the most magical place on earth. We always talk about how incredible it would be to shoot a wedding or engagement session at WDW! That’s bucket list dreams right there, friends.
